The author, the American piano pedagogue, and musician, James (Jim) W. Bastien (1934-2005), was born to a musical father, Clarence, who played the violin. In Portland, Oregon, James began his piano studies with Frances Mulkey North. Subsequently, he studied with the late Ariel Rubstein, the late Louis Artau, and the late György Sándor. He received his undergraduate and masters degrees from Southern Methodist University.James Bastien met his wife Jane Smisor in New Orleans in 1960. They performed as the duo-piano team, Smisor and Bastien. Jane Smisor Bastien together with her husband James Bastien, wrote the best-selling Bastien Piano Methods enjoyed by millions of students and teachers worldwide. The series of books are now translated into more than 16 languages. Inspired by Robert Pace's "Multi-Key" pedagogical approach, they created the "Gradual Multi-Key Approach.", which evolved into the bestseller Bastien Piano Basics in 1985. Together the couple published over 400 publications over the years and Jane continued the work with her two daughters, Lisa and Lori. There are three levels in the Boogie, Rock & Country books, which is part of the Bastian Piano Basics Supplementary books. These books are geared to 7-11 year old beginners, and are supplements to a four level series. There is also a primer level (5-7 year old beginners).Level one is for the very beginner: It's in 4/4. It only has quarter notes and an occasional eight note. All are in the key of C, except one song, which is in the key of G.The songs are arranged in a progressive order of difficulty.Year of Publication is 1987The book has 12 songs:Boogie Board BoogieCat BoogieCountry GirlHalloween BoogieHappy Cowboy, AHigh SpiritIndian boogieMovin' Up RockRagtime MagicRobot RockRock GroupYellow Rose of Texas, TheIt's hard to argue with a best selling series.
